Oh the weather outside is frightful
But inside it’s so delightful
Planning which seeds to sow
Let us grow, let us grow, let us grow
Winter doesn’t show signs of stopping
Seed catalogs in the mail are dropping
Gardens planned row by row
Let us grow, let us grow, let us grow
When we finally have it right
And our plans have taken form
We hope to avoid any blight
Or a damaging Spring hailstorm
Grow lights in the windows are glowing
Seed trays with soil overflowing
As long as you tend to them so
They will grow, they will grow, they will grow
Cold weather doesn’t show signs of stopping
But it leaves time to plan crop swapping
Gardens planned row by row
Let us grow, let us grow, let us grow
As weather and temperatures drive gardeners indoors, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do! This time of year is perfect for planning next year’s landscape and garden. Each year brings its own stresses and problems but winter is a great time to reflect and strategize improvements for the new and upcoming season.
Utah is the 2nd driest state in the nation, so planning ways to conserve water in the year ahead is a resolution we always recommend to the public. Luckily for us (and for you) the Conservation Garden Park has worked with a team of horticulturists, landscapes designers, maintenance pros, members of the water industry and irrigation experts all from Utah to develop some very “user-friendly” tools to help plan for a successful 2017.
The Localscape concept was introduced to our clients during the 2016 Horticulture Spotlight Lecture Series at Red Butte Garden. We were lucky enough to have the very talented Cynthia Bee, Outreach Coordinator for the Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, come and present on this topic. In case you missed it- you can still get all of the information HERE!
The approach of Localscapes is to take into account Utah’s unique climate and create a landscape that works for where you live! For more details and FREE ready-made landscape designs, visit their website at www.localscapes.com
